The collection includes video recordings of oral history interviews and panel discussions that took place during the World War II Symposium, “Focus on a Generation: Pomona College and the WWII Years” over Alumni Weekend on April 27th and 28th, 2001. This collection consists of a variety of materials from Ken Tamura’s life. Ken Tamura was 2nd generation Japanese American born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, in 1923. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, his family was sent to a relocation center in Pomona (California), and then relocated to Heart Mountain internment camp in Wyoming. A collection of approximately 70 letters with several accompanying photographs, occasional handwritten illustrations, and postcards from Sergeant Wilfred D. Carnes, an Au Sable Forks, New York native to his family while serving in World War II from 1943 until 1945. The Yamano Japanese Internment collection contains materials pertaining to the life of Japanese Americans before, during, and after World War II. Many of the materials in the collection document their time in relocation and internment facilities. Sakae and Matsuzo Yamano emigrated from Japan to California in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
